Cadet [fr. cadet, Fr., the younger son of a family; said to be fr. capitetum, little chief, Wedgw.], one who is trained for the army by a course of military discipline at Woolwich, Sandhurst, Halton Camp, etc., previously to obtaining a commission in the army. Also a younger brother, Encyc. Londin.
