Definition :
Broad-arrow, use as a Government mark, is thought to have had a Celtic origin; and the so-called arrow may be the ' or ', the broad a of the Druids. This letter was typical of superiority either in rank and authority, intellect, or holiness; and is believed to have stood also for king or prince. Public stores are marked with the Broad Arrow.
