Belg', the ancient name of the inhabitants of Somersetshire, Wiltshire, and Hampshire; also of the city of Wells, in Somersetshire. Probably a Celtic tribe. The Romans, whom they resisted for nearly 100 years, included them indiscriminately among 'Germanic' populations.
