Definition :

Allocation of time, means to set apart time for a specific purpose; to allocate time for different items of business in Parliament, Webster Law Dictionary, p. 40.

In U.K., the House of Commons has, in principle, control of the time of the House, but, in actual practice, this control has been delegated to the Government. Parliamentary Practice by Erskie May, 22nd Edn., 1997, p. 269.

In India, the practice is that all items of business to be transacted by the House during the Government time including those to which the Speaker is empowered to allot time himself, are normally placed before the Business Advisory Committee for allocation of time. Practice and Procedure of Parliament, M.N. Kaul and S.L. Shakdher, 5th Edn. 2001, p. 775.
