Abbas [fr. 'stuarium, Lat.] (Anglo-Saxon) singly or in conjunction, the site of an abbey or land belonging to one. For instance, Cerne Abbas in Dorsetshire (from Crem, Anglo-Saxon, a cheese, indicating a place, where cheese-making was carried on) means the abbot's diary or cheese farm.
