Definition

Swans. A swan, it is said, is a royal fowl, and all swans which have no other owner belong to the King by his prerogative. See Case of Swans, 7 Rep. 16 a. The (English) Games Act, 1831, s. 24, imposes a penalty not exceeding 5s. on any person who takes a swan's egg on land where he has not the right of killing game. See (English) Protection of Birds Act, 1933 (23 & 24 Geo. 5, c. 52), and ANIMALS.
