Definition

Subinfeudation, where the inferior lords, in imita-tion of their superiors, began to carve out and grant to others minuter estates than their own, to be held of themselves, and were so proceeding downward in infinitum till they were stopped by legislative provisions. See TENURE, and Addenda.
