Definition :

Squibs. Casting squibs in any thoroughfare or public place is an offence punishable by fine. See FIREWORKS.

In the leading case of Scott v. Shepherd, (1773) 2 Wm Bl 892, 1 Sm LC, it was held that an action of trespass and assault lay against the original thrower of a squib, which after having been thrown about in self-defence by two other persons successively, 'at last put out the plaintiff's eye.'
