Special examiner, one appointed to take examinations in suits in Chancery, etc., appointed, by agreement of the parties, instead of the officer of the court, for the greater despatch of the suit. He was generally a professional lawyer, Smith's Chan. Prac. 27; and 15 & 16 Vict. c. 86, ss. 31 et seq. See (English) R.S.C. Ord. XXXVII., and A.P. notes thereto.
