Sign-manual. 1. The royal signature. Sometimes required by statute as evidence of the authority of the sovereign, e.g., by the Jud. Act, 1925, s. 4 (2), replacing Jud. Act, 1873, s. 31, interference to the transfer of a judge of the High Court from one division thereof to another. Towards the end of the reign of King George the Fourth, the royal signature was, in consequence of the king's illness, by 11 Geo. 4 & 1 Wm. 4, c. 23, authorized to be affixed for him by commission.
2. The signature of any one's name in his own handwriting.
