Definition :

Reservoir, a reservoir cannot be understood merely to be a means to hold water in a stream. It is only by controlling the following stream in an area such as water can be stored in reservoir. Irrigation work would include land used for such purpose. 'Reservoir' may not necessarily mean only the constructed part of the land but includes the area where the water is held by a dam constructed by the Government, Orient Papers and Industries Ltd. v. Tahsildar, AIR 1998 SC 3330 (3334): (1998) 7 SCC 303. [Orissa Irrigation Act, 1959 (14 of 1959), s. 4(d) and 28]
