Definition :
Province, the district over which the jurisdiction of an archbishop extends. England is divided into two provinces, Canterbury and York; the province of York comprises all north of the Humber, i.e., Yorkshire and Lancashire, etc., and Cheshire; all the rest of the island is in the province of Canterbury. A county; an outlying county gover-ned by a deputy or lieutenant. Metaphorically, the sphere of duty: as the province of the judge and the province of the jury.
Province shall mean a Presidency, a Governor's Province, a Lieutenant Governor's Province or a Chief Commissioner's Province. [General Clauses Act, 1897, s. 3(45)]
