Definition :

Producer, in relation to a cinematograph film or sound recording, means a person who takes the initiative and responsibility for making the work. [Copyright Act, 1957 (14 of 1957), s. 2 (uu)]

In relation to a feature film, means the person by whom the arrangements necessary for the making of such film (including the raising of finances and engaging cine-workers for the making of such film) are undertaken. [Cine-workers and Cinema Theatre Workers (Regulations of employment) Act, 1981 (5 of 1981), s. 2(h)]

In relation to goods, means any person who,--

(i) if such goods are agricultural goods, produces the goods and includes the person who processes or packages such goods;

(ii) if such goods are natural goods, exploits the goods;

(iii) if such goods are handicraft or industrial goods, makes or manufacture the goods, and includes any person who trades or deals in such production, exploitation, making or manufacturing, as the case may be, of the goods. [Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 (48 of 1999), s. 2(1)(k)]

Producer, in relation to goods, means any person who,--

(i) if such goods are agricultural goods, produces the goods and includes the person who processes or packages such goods.

(ii) if such goods are natural goods, exploits the goods;

(iii) if such goods are handicraft or industrial goods, makes or manufactures the goods,

and includes any person who trades or deals in such production, exploitation, making or manufactur-ing, as the case may be, of the goods. [Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, s. 2(k)]

Means a person who produces notified agricultural produce on one's own account--

(i) by one's own labour; or

(ii) by the labour of any member of one's family; or

(iii) under the personal supervision of oneself or any member of one's family by hired labour or by servants on wages payable in cash or kind but not in share of the produce, Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act, 1966 (27 of 1966) s. 34.

Means produces of human activity or effort, C.S.T. v. A.R. Aladin, AIR 1964 Guj 27.

Product, includes not only what is manufactured with a particular commodity but also bye-product thereof. Product means not only 'a thing produced by nature or a natural process' but also 'that which is produced by any action, operation or work; a production', Nakirekanti Panduranga Rao v. State of Andhra Pradesh, 1976 (1) Andh WR 41.

The word 'product' is defined in Webster's Com-prehensive Dictionary as 'anything produced or obtained as a result of some operation or work', CCE v. Protein Products of India Ltd., AIR 1989 SC 627 (629): (1989) 1 SCC 729.
