Pentonville prison, a place provided in 1842 under 5 & 6 Vict. c. 29 and 13 & 14 Vict. c. 39 for the confine-ment of male convicts under sentence of trans-portation, and later used for the confinement of those sentenced to penal servitude. Discontinued and sold under powers provided by 48 & 49 Vict. c. 72.
