Mancipation, a legal formality for acquiring property by either an actual or a simulated purchase. The formality consisted in laying hold of a thing and arresting title to it before five witnesses, followed by weighing the real or pretended purchase money on scales, Black's Law Dictionary, 7th Edn., p. 972.
