GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ACT, 1915-191 Preamble2 An Act to consolidate enactments relating to the government of India. whereas it is the declared policy of Parliament to provide for the increasing association of Indians in every branch of Indian administration, and for the gradual development of self-governing institutions, with a view to the progressive realisation of responsible government in British India as an integral part of the empire: AND WHEREAS progress in giving effect to this policy can only be achieved by successive stages, and it is expedient that substantial steps in this direction should now be taken: AND WHEREAS the time and manner of each advance can be determined only by Parliament, upon whom responsibility lies for the welfare and advancement of the Indian peoples: AND WHEREAS the action of Parliament in such matters must be guided by the co-operation received from those on whom new opportunities of service will be conferred, and by the extent to which it is found that confidence con be reposed in their sense of responsibility: AND WHEREAS concurrently with the gradual development of self-governing institutions in the provinces of India it is.....

Title: The Power of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Fort William Shall Extend over the Province of Benares and All Places Subordinate Thereto, and All Districts Hereafter Annexed to the Presidency of Fort William

THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ACT, 1800 [Act, No. 39 & 40 Geo. 3, c. 79] [28th July, 1800] PREAMBLE An Act for establishing further Regulations for the Government of the British Territories in India, and the better Administration of Justice within the same. Whereas the territorial possessions of the United Company of Merchants of England trading to the East Indies, in the peninsula of India, have become so much extended as to require further regulations to be made for the due government of the same: and whereas by an Act of Parliament made and passed in the thirty-third year of the reign of his present Majesty, intituled, "An Act for continuing in the East India Company for a further term the possession of the British territories in India, together with their exclusive trade, under certain limitations, for establishing further regulations for the government of the said territories and the better administration of justice within the same, for appropriating to certain uses the revenues and profits of the said company, and for making provision for the good order and government of the towns of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay", it is enacted, that the whole civil.....
