.....of the Governor on the 7th November, 1993 and is hereby published for general information:- Tripura Act No. 7 of 1993 THE TRIPURA PANCHAYATS ACT, 1993 An Act to recognise Panchayats in rural areas of Tripura and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. Whereas it is expedient and necessary to replace the present statute relating to Panchayats to bring it in conformity with the purpose, substance and direction of the Constitution (Seventy third) Amendment Act, 1992 which came into force on 24th April, 1993, in general, and, in particular, to endow the Panchayats with functions and powers so as to enable them to function as vibrant institutions of local self-government with greater peoples' participation in managing their own affairs besides imparting certainty, continuity and democratic content and dignity aiming, among other things, at the realisation of economic and social justice. Be it enacted by the Tripura Legislative Assembly in the Forty fourth Year of the Republic of India, as follows :------ PART I Preliminary CHAPTER I Short Title, extent and commencement. 1. I OF 1993) An Act to provide for better regu1ation of marketing of agricultural produce and the establishment and proper administration of markets for agriculture produce and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto. Title: Constitution of Grama Panchayats and Standing Committees

.....of the "---Grama Panchayat" and shall have perpetual succession and a common seal, and subject to such restrictions as are imposed by or under this Act or any other enactment, shall be vested with the capacity of suing or being sued in its corporate name, of acquiring, holding and transferring property, moveable or immoveable, whether without or within the limits of the area over which it has authority, of entering into contracts and of doing all things necessary, proper or expedient for the purposes for which it is constituted.
