Section 24 - Documents executed by several persons at different times Where there are several persons executing a document at different times, such document may be presented for registration and re-registration within four months from the date of each execution. Section 25 - Provision where delay in presentation is unavoidable (1) If, owing to urgent necessity or unavoidable accident, any document executed, or copy of a decree or order made, in1[India] is not presented for registration till after the expiration of the time hereinbefore prescribed in that behalf, the Registrar, in cases where the delay in presentation does not exceed four months, may direct that, on payment of a fine not exceeding ten times the amount of the proper registration-fee, such document shall be accepted for registration. Indian Contract Act, 1872 Section 55

Title: Effect of Failure to Perform at a Fixed Time, in Contract in Which Time is Essential

.....voidable at the option of the promisee, if the intention of the parties was that time should be of the essence of the contract. Effect of such failure when time is not essential If it was not the intention of the parties that time should be of the essence of the contract, the contract does not become voidable by the failure to do such thing at or before the specified time; but the promisee is entitled to compensation from the promisor for any loss occasioned to him by such failure. Effect of acceptance of performance at time other than that agreed upon. - If, in case of a contract voidable on account of the promisor's failure to perform his promise at the time agreed, the promisee accepts performance of such promise at any time other than that agreed, the promisee cannot claim compensation for any loss occasioned by the non-performance of the promise at the time agreed, unless, at the time of such acceptance he gives notice to the promisor of his intention to do so.1 ______________________ 1. Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 Chapter X

Title: Of Reasonable Time

In determining what is a reasonable time for presentment for acceptance or payment, for giving notice of dishonour and for noting, regard shall be had to the nature of the instrument and the usual course of dealing with respect to similar instruments; and, in calculating such time, public holidays shall be excluded. Section 106 - Reasonable time of giving notice of dishonour If the holder and the party to whom notice of dishonour is given carry on business or live (as the case may be) in different places, such notice is given within a reasonable time if it is despatched by the next post or on the day next after the day of dishonour. If the said parties carry on business or live in the same place, such notice is given within a reasonable time if it is despatched in time to reach its destination on the day next after the day of dishonour. Section 107 - Reasonable time for transmitting such notice A party receiving notice of dishonour, who seeks to enforce his right against a prior party, transmits the notice within a reasonable time if he transmits it within the same time after its receipt as he would have had to give notice if he had been the holder.

Title: Voyage and Time Policies

(1) Where the contract is to insure the subject-matter at and from, or from one place to another or others, the policy is called a "voyage policy", and, where the contract is to insure the subject-matter for a definite period of time, the policy is called a "time policy". A contract for both voyage and time may be included in the same policy. (2) A time policy which is made for any time exceeding twelve months is invalid.

Title: Time Limit for Completion of Assessments and Re-assessments

.....of, or to give effect to, any finding or direction contained in an order under Section 15 or Section 16 or Section 19 or Section 20 of this Act or Section 256 or Section 260 of the Income-tax Act as applicable to this Act by virtue of Section 21 of this Act or in an order of any Court in a proceeding otherwise than by way of appeal or reference under this Act and such assessment or re-assessment may, subject to the provisions of sub-section (3), be completed at any time. Explanation 1.-- In computing the period of limitation for the purposes of this section- (i) the time taken in reopening the whole or any part of the proceeding; or (ii) the period during which the assessment proceeding is stayed by an order or injunction of any Court, shall be excluded. Explanation 2.-- Where, by an order referred to in sub-section (4), any interest is excluded from the chargeable interest for an assessment year in respect of an assessee, then, an assessment of such interest for another assessment year shall, for the purposes of Section 10 and this section, be deemed to be one made in consequence of, or to give effect to, any finding or direction contained in the said order.] .....

(1) If the Registrar is satisfied, on application made to him in the prescribed manner and accompanied by the prescribed fee, that there is sufficient cause for extending the time for doing any act (not being a time expressly provided in the Act), whether the time so specified has expired or not, he may, subject to such conditions as he may think fit to impose, extend the time and notify the parties accordingly. (2) Nothing in sub-section (1) shall be deemed to require the Registrar to hear the parties before disposing of an application for extension of time, and no appeal shall lie from any order of the Registrar under this section.

Title: Power to Court Only to Enlarge Time for Making Award

(1) The Court may, if it thinks fit, whether the time for making the award has expired or not and whether the award has been made or not, enlarge from time to time the time for making the award. (2) Any provision in an arbitration agreement whereby the arbitrators or umpire may, except with the consent of all the parties to the agreement, enlarge the time for making the award, shall be void and of no effect.
