Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 Section 24

Title : Punishment for External Dealings in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in Contravention of Section 12

Whoever engages in or controls any trade whereby a narcotic drug or a psychotropic substance is obtained outside India and supplied to any person outside India without the previous authorisation of the Central Government or otherwise than in accordance with the conditions (if any) of such authorisation granted under section 12, shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than ten years but which may extend to twenty years and shall also be liable to fine which shall not be less than one lakh rupees but may extend to two lakh rupees: Provided that the court may, for reasons to be recorded in the judgment, impose a fine exceeding two lakh rupees.

Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2009 Section 2

In section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950(43 of 1950),-- (i) in clause (a), for the words "chief electoral officer", the words "district magistrate or additional district magistrate or executive magistrate or district collector or an officer of equivalent rank" shall be substituted; (ii) after clause (a), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:-- "(b) to the chief electoral officer, from any order of the district magistrate or the additional district magistrate under clause (a)".

Finance Act, 2002 Section 12

In section 24 of the Income-tax Act, in clause (b), with effect from the 1st day of April, 2003,-- (a) in the second proviso, for the words, figures and letters "before the 1st day of April, 2003", the words "within three years from the end of the financial year in which capital was borrowed" shall be substituted; (b) after the second proviso and the Explanation, the following shall be inserted, namely:-- 'Provided also that no deduction shall be made under the second proviso unless the assessee furnishes a certificate, from the person to whom any interest is payable on the capital borrowed, specifying the amount of interest payable by the assessee for the purpose of such acquisition or construction of the property, or, conversion of the whole or any part of the capital borrowed which remains to be repaid as a new loan. Explanation.--For the purposes of this proviso, the expression "new loan" means the whole or any part of a loan taken by the assessee subsequent to the capital borrowed, for the purpose of repayment of such capital.'.

In section 24 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 (25 of 1955) (hereafter in this Chapter referred to as the Hindu Marriage Act), the following proviso shall be inserted, namely: -- "Provided that the application for the payment of the expenses of the proceeding and such monthly sum during the proceeding, shall, as far as possible, be disposed of within sixty days from the date of service of notice on the wife or the husband, as the case may be."

Whoever, being required by section 24 to present any weight or measure for verification or re-verification, omits or fails, without any reasonable cause to do so, shall be punished with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, and, for the second or subsequent offence, with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year and also with fine.
