Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 Section 228

Title: Filthy Buildings, Etc.

(1) Whoever, being the owner or occupier of any building or land whether tenantable or otherwise, suffers the same to be in a filthy and unwholesome condition, or in the opinion of the municipal council a nuisance to persons residing in the neighbourhood, or overgrown with prickly-pear or rank and noisome vegetation, and who shall not, within a reasonable time after notice in writing by the municipal council to cleanse, clear or otherwise put the same in a proper condition, have complied with the requisition contained in such notice, shall be punished with fine which may extend to twenty-five rupees, and with further fine which may extend to five rupees for every day on which the failure to comply with the said notice is continued, after the date of the first conviction. (2) Should the condition of the building be such as in the opinion of the municipal council to render it unfit for human habitation, it may further, by written notice, prohibit the using thereof for that purpose until it is rendered fit.

Title: Wires, Etc., Laid Above Surface of Ground

In the event of any cable, wire, pipe, drain, sewer or channel being laid or carried above the surface of any land or through, over or up the side of any building, such cable, wire, pipe, drain sewer or channel shall be so laid or carried as to interfere as little as possible with the rights of the owner or occupier to the due enjoyment of such land or building, and compensation shall be payable by the1[Board] in respect of any substantial interference with the right to any such enjoyment. ________________________ 1. New Delhi Municipal Council Act 1994 Section 228

Title: Precautions During Repair of Streets

State: Central

Year: 1994

(1) The Chairperson shall, so far as is practicable, during the construction or repair of any public street, or any municipal drain or any premises vested in the Council-- (a) cause the same to be fenced and guarded, (b) take proper precautions against accident by shoring up and protecting the adjoining buildings, (c) cause such bars, chains or posts to be fixed across or in any street in which any such work of construction or repair is under execution as are necessary in order to prevent the passage of vehicles or animals and avert danger. (2) The Chairperson shall cause such street, drain or premises to be sufficiently lighted or guarded during night while under construction or repair. (3) The Chairperson shall, with all reasonable speed, cause the said work to be completed, the ground to be filled in, the street, drain or premises to be repaired and the rubbish occasioned thereby to be removed. (4) No person shall, without the permission of the Chairperson or other lawful authority, remove any bar, chain, post or shorting, timber, or remove or extinguish any light set up under this section.

Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 Section 228

Title: Cancellation or Suspension of Certificate of Survey by Central Government

(1) Any certificate of survey granted under this Part may be cancelled or suspended by the Central Government if it has reason to believe (a) that the declaration by the surveyor of the sufficiency of the hull, boilers, engines or any of the equipment of the ship has been fraudulently or erroneously made; or (b) that the certificate has otherwise been issued upon false of erroneous information. (2) Before any certificate of survey is cancelled or suspended under sub-section (1), the holder of the certificate shall be given a reasonable opportunity of showing cause why the certificate should not be cancelled or suspended, as the case may be : Provided that this sub-section shall not apply where the Central Government is satisfied that for some reason to be recorded in writing it is not reasonably practicable to give to the holder of the certificate an opportunity of showing cause.
