Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 Section 218

Title: Functions of National Welfare Board for Seafarers

.....establishment of clubs, canteens, libraries and other like amentities for the benefit of seamen; (c) the establishment of hospitals for seamen or the provision of medical treatment, for seamen; (d) the provision of educational and other facilities for seamen. (2) The Central Government may make rules providing for (a) the composition of the Board and the term of office of members thereof; (b) the procedure to be followed in the conduct of business by the Board (c) the travelling and other allowances payable to members of the Board; (d) the levy of fees payable by owners of ships at such rates as may be prescribed (which may be at different rates for different classes of ships) for the purpose of providing amenities to seamen and for taking other measures for the welfare of seamen; (e) the procedure by which any such fees may be collected or recovered and the manner in which the proceeds of such fees, after deduction of the cost of collection, shall be utilised for the purpose specified in clause (d).

Title: Public Servant Framing Incorrect Record or Writing with Intent to Save Person from Punishment or Property from Forfeiture

Whoever, being a public servant, and being as such public servant, charged with the preparation of any record or other writing, frames that record or writing in a manner which he knows to be incorrect, with intent to cause, or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby cause, loss or injury to the public or to any person, or with intent thereby to save, or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby save, any person from legal punishment, or with intent to save, or knowing that he is likely thereby to save, any properly from forfeiture or other charge to which it is liable by law, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.

Title: Sewage and Rain Water Drains to Be Distinct

Wherever it is provided in this Chapter that steps shall or may be taken for the effectual drainage of any premises, it shall be competent to the Chief Executive Officer to require that there shall be one drain for filth and polluted water and an entirely distinct drain for rain water and unpolluted sub-soil water or both rain water and unpolluted sub-soil water, each emptying into separate cantonment drains or other suitable places.

Title: To Whom Administration May Be Granted, Where Deceased is a Hindu, Muhammadan, Buddhist, Sikh, Jaina or Exempted Person

(1) If the deceased has died intestate and was a Hindu, Muhammadan, Buddhist, Sikh or jaina or an exempted person, administration of his estate may be granted to any person who, according to the rules for the distribution of the estate applicable in the case of such deceased, would be entitled to the whole or any part of such deceased's estate. (2) When several such persons apply for such administration, it shall be in the discretion of the Court to grant it to any one or more of them. (3) When no such person applies, it may be granted to a creditor of the deceased.

Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 Section 218

Title: Taluk Panchayat Fund

(1) There shall be for each Taluk Panchayat a fund called the Taluk Panchayat Fund. (2) The following shall form part of, and be paid into the Taluk Panchayat Fund, namely:- (a) the amount which may be granted or passed on to the Taluk Panchayat by the Government or the Zilla Panchayat under the provisions of this Act or any other Act, or on any other account; (b) the proceeds of any fees imposed by the Taluk Panchayat; (c) all sums received by the Taluk Panchayat by way of contributions from the Government or any other authority or person or by way of gift; (d) the rent or other income from, or sale proceeds of any immoveable or movable property owned by or vested in the Taluk Panchayat; and (e) all other sums received from any source whatsoever: Provided that sums received by way of endowments for any specific purpose shall not form part of or be paid into the Taluk Panchayat Fund. (3) The amounts at the credit of the Taluk Panchayat Fund shall be kept in the Government Treasury of the taluk.

Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 Section 218

Title: Provision of Facilities when Work is Executed in Public Street

State: Karnataka

(1) When any work is being executed by the municipal council in any public street it shall, so far as may reasonably be capable, make adequate provision for, -- (a) the passage or diversion of traffic; (b) proper access to all premises approached from such street; and (c) any drainage, water-supply, or means of lighting, which are interrupted by reason of the execution of such work. (2) The municipal council shall, during the construction or repair of anyof the streets, sewers, drains or other premises vested in it, take proper precaution for guarding against accident, by shoring up and protecting the adjoining buildings, and shall cause such bars, chains or posts to be fixed across or in any of the streets, to prevent the passage of carriages, carts, or other vehicles or of cattle or horses while such works are carried on, as to it shall seem proper; and the municipal council shall cause any sewer or drain or other works in streets, during the construction or repair thereof, to be sufficiently lighted and guarded during the night. Title: Separate Charges for Distinct Offences

(1) For every distinct offence of which any person is accused there shall be a separate charge and every such charge shall be tried separately: Provided that where the accused person, by an application in writing, so desires and the Magistrate is of opinion that such person is not likely to be prejudiced thereby the Magistrate may try together all or any number of the charges framed against such person. (2) Nothing in sub-section (1) shall affect the operation of the provisions of sections 219, 220, 221 and 223. Illustration A is accused of a theft on one occasion, and of causing grievous hurt on another occasion. A must be separately charged and separately tried for the theft and causing grievous hurt.

Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994 Section 218

Title: Election to the Municipalities

(1) The superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of electoral rolls for, and conduct of, all elections to the Municipalities shall be vested in the State Election Commission constituted under section 98 of the Manipur Panchayati Raj Act, 1994. (2) Subject to the provisions of this Act, election to the municipality shall be held in accordance with the rules made by the Government in this behalf. (3) The Government shall, when so requested by the State Election Commission, make available to the State Election Commission such staff as may be necessary for the discharge of the functions conferred on the State Election Commission under this Act.
