THE OILFIELDS (REGULATION AND DEVELOPMENT) ACT, 1948 [Act, No. 53 of 1948] [8th September, 1948] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the regulation of1[**] oilfields and for the development of2[mineral oil resources]. Damodar Valley Corporation Act,1948 Section 21

Title: Other Activities of the Corporation

(1) The Corporation may establish, maintain and operate laboratories, experimental and research stations and farms for conducting experiments and research for-- (a) utilising the water, electrical energy and other resources in the most economical manner for the development of the Damodar Valley, (b) determining the effect of its operations on the flow conditions in the Hooghly river, (c) making improvements in navigation conditions in the port of Calcutta, and (d) carrying out any other function specified under section 12. (2) The Corporation may set up its own planning, designing, construction and operating agencies, or make arrangements therefor with the participating Governments, local authorities, educational and research institutions or any person carrying on the business of an architect, an engineer or a contractor.

The Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948 Complete Act

.....purpose of ascertaining the position of the working, actual or prospective, of any mine or abandoned mine or for any other purpose mentioned in this Act or the rules made thereunder, any officer authorised by the Central Government in this behalf shall have the right to - (a) enter and inspect any mine ; (b) order the production of any document, book, register or record in the possession or power of any person having the control of or connected with, any mine; (c) examine any person having the control of, or connected with, any mine. ACT 30 of 1993 : - The Dentists Act, 1948 was enacted with the object of regulating the profession of dentistry and for that purpose to constitute Dental Councils. 2. The experience of the working of the Act has brought to light certain inadequacies. One of the most noticeable inadequacies has been the mushrooming of the dental colleges without adequate academic and training facilities as laid down in the regulations of the Dental Council of India. At present, the law does not require any one to seek the prior permission of Dental Council of India before establishing a new dental college or for adding a new course of study or post- graduate course or for increasing the capacity of 'students in any existing college, taking advantage of these legal lacumae dental colleges were being established after obtaining the permission of the State Government and affiliation from the University concerned.
