.....through Tamil Medium of instruction; e. "preferential vacancies " means such vacancies available for persons studied in Tamil medium under sub-section (1) of Section 3; f. "services under the State" includes the services under" (i) the Government; (ii) the Legislature of the State; (iii) any Local Authority; (iv) any Corporation or Company owned or controlled by the Government; and (v) any other authority in respect of which the State Legislature has power to make laws; 3. Preferential appointment." (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in any law for the time being in force and subject to Section 5, twenty per cent of all vacancies in appointment in the services under the State which are to be filled through direct recruitment shall be set apart on preferential basis to persons studied in Tamil Medium. (2) Selection for appointment under sub-section (1) shall be made in such manner as may be prescribed. THE KERALA RATION DEALERS' WELFARE FUND ACT, 1998 1 THE KERALA RATION DEALERS' WELFARE FUND ACT, 1998 1 ( Act 16 of 1998) An Act to provide for the constitution of a Fund to grant relief to, and to promote the Welfare of, the ration dealers in the State of Kerala Preamble.- WHEREAS, it is considered expedient to provide for the constitution of a Fund to grant relief to, and to promote the welfare of, the ration dealers in the State of Kerala and for matters incidental or ancillary thereto; BE it enacted in the Forty-ninth year of the Republic of India as follows:- 1. Short title, extent and commencement.- (1) This act may be called the Kerala Ration Dealers' Welfare Fund Act, 1998. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Kerala. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint. 2. Definitions.- In this Act unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) ˜contribution' means the sum of money payable to the fund under section 6; (b) ˜family' means wife or husband, as the case may be, minor sons and unmarried daughters, dependent parents and mentally retarded.....

Act 68 of 1982 The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, regulates the import into, manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs and cosmetics in the country. The problems of adulteration of drugs and also of production of spurious and sub-standard drugs are posing serious threat to the health of the community. It is, therefore, considered necessary to amend the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, so as to impose more stringent penalties on the anti-social elements indulging in the manufacture or sale of adulterated or spurious drugs or drugs not of standard quality which are likely to cause death or grievous hurt to the user. This opportunity is also being availed of to incorporate certain other provisions on the other aspects of effective control on the manufacture, distribution, sale of drugs and cosmetics on the basis of experience gained in the working of the Act. 2. Some of the important proposals envisaged are set out below:- (1) (a) Widening of the definition of the expression 'cosmetics' so as to bring within its scope 'tiolet soaps' in order.....

(1) The eldest woman who is not less than eighteen years of age, in every eligible household, shall be head of the household for the purpose of issue of ration cards. (2) Where a household at any time does not have a woman or a woman of eighteen years of age or above, but has a female member below the age of eighteen years, then, the eldest male member of the household shall be the head of the household for the purpose of issue of ration card and the female member, on attaining the age of eighteen years, shall become the head of the household for such ration cards in place of such male member.
