SHRI JAGANNATH TEMPLE ACT, 1955 SHRI JAGANNATH TEMPLE ACT, 1955 An Act to Provide for Better Administration and Governance of Shri Jagannath Temple at Puri and its Endowments [Published vide Orissa Gazette Part X-No.44/4.11.1956] Whereas the ancient Temple of Lord Jagannath of Puri has ever since its inception been an institution of unique national importance in which millions of Hindu devotees from regions far and wide have reposed their faith and belief and have regarded it as the epitome of their tradition and culture; And whereas long period to and after the British conquest the superintendence, control and management of the affairs of the Temple have been the direct concern of successive Rulers, Governments and their officers and of the publisher exchequer; And whereas by Regulation IV of 1809 passed by the Governor-General in Council on 28th April, 1809 and thereafter by other laws and regulations and in pursuance of arrangement entered into with the Raja of Khurda, later designated the Raja of Puri, the said Raja came to be entrusted hereditary with the management of the affairs of the Temple and its properties as Superintendent subject to the control.....

SECTION 05: RECOVERY OF SUMS DUE TO GOVERNMENT In respect of the duty of excise and any other sums of any kind payable to the collecting Government under any of the provisions of this Act or of the rules made thereunder, the excise officer empowered by the said rules to levy such duty or require the payment of such sums, may deduct the amount so payable from any money owing to the person from whom such sums may be recoverable or due, which may be in his hands or under his disposal or control or may recover the amount by attachment and sale of dutiable goods belonging to such person; and if the amount payable is not so recovered, he may prepare a certificate signed by him specifying the amount due from the person liable to pay the sum and send it to the Collector of the district in which such person resides or conducts his business, and the said Collector on receipt of such certificate shall proceed to recover from.....

In cases, however, where the industrial concern is not found eligible for accommodation from Corporation, the Cottage Industries Department may consider such applications upto a limit of Rs. 50,000. But the Co-operative Societies being composed of a number of individuals generally require more capital than what an individual requires. The industries taken up by the Co-operative Societies are also larger than industries taken up by the individuals and as such a Co-operative Society usually required more than Rs. 20,000 for developing the industries. The Government of India have offered assistance to State Governments for issuing loans to Small Industries at 3 percent interest per annum only and.....

Title: Recovery of Cost of Removal of Encroachment

(1) Whenever the Highway Authority or the officer authorized under sub-section (1) of section 21 has under the provisions of section 23 removed any encroachment or carried out any protective work in respect of any encroachment, the expenditure involved shall be recovered from the person responsible for the encroachment in the manner hereinafter provided. (2) A bill, representing the expenditure incurred shall be served by the Highway Authority or the authorized officer referred to in sub-section (1) on the person responsible for the encroachment or his representative with a direction to pay up the amount within a specified period to the authority mentioned in the bill.
