Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers-rights Act, 2001 Chapter I

Title: Preliminary

.....the context otherwise requires,-- (a) "Authority" means the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority established under sub-section (1) of section 3; (b) "benefit sharing", in relation to a variety, means such proportion of the benefit accruing to a breeder of such variety or such proportion of the benefit accruing to the breeder from an agent or a licensee of such variety, as the case may be, for which a claimant shall be entitled as determined by the Authority under section 26; (c) "breeder" means a person or group of persons or a farmer or group of farmers or any institution which has bred, evolved or developed any variety; (d) "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Tribunal; (e) "Chairperson" means the Chairperson of the Authority appointed under clause (a) of sub-section (5) of section 3, (f) "convention country" means a country which has acceded to an international convention for the protection of plant varieties to which India has also acceded, or a country which has a law on protection of plant varieties on the basis of which India has entered into an agreement for granting plant breeders' right to the citizens of both the countries; (g).....

Finance Act 2001 Chapter V

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amdndment) Act, 2001 Section 25

Title: Substitution of New Section for Section 54

For section 54 of the principal Act, the following section shall be substituted, namely: -- "54. Presumption from possession of illicit articles. In trials under this Act, it may be presumed, unless and until the contrary is proved, that the accused has committed an offence under this Act in respect of-- (a) any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance or controlled substance; (b) any opium poppy, cannabis plant or coca plant growing on any land which he has cultivated; (c) any apparatus specially designed or any group of utensils specially adopted for the manufacture of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance or controlled substance; or (d) any materials which have undergone any process towards the manufacture of a narcotic drug or psychotropic substance or controlled substance, or any residue left of the materials from which any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance or controlled substance has been manufactured,for the possession of which he fails to account satisfactorily."

Advocates Welfare Fund Act, 2001 Section 20

ADVOCATES WELFARE FUND ACT, 2001 Chapter V

Title: MEMBERSHIP AND PAYMENT OUT OF ADVOCATES' WELFARE FUND

Finance Act 2001 Section 133

Title: Validation of Certain Exemption Given to Polytan in Powder or Granule Form

.....granting exemption from customs duty leviable under the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act and additional duty of customs leviable under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Customs Tariff Act on import of "Polytan in powder or granule form" by Sports Authority of India for laying synthetic tracks and artificial surfaces for use in a national or international championship or competition to be held in India or abroad shall be deemed to be, and always to have been for all purposes validity, come into force on and from the 1st day of December, 2000 at all material times. (2) Refund shall be made of all such duties which have been collected but which would not have been so collected if the amendment referred to in sub-section (1) had been in force at all material times. Karnataka Rent Control Act, 2001 Chapter III

Title: Deposit of Rent

.....rent and other charges deposited under section 17 in the manner provided therein shall not operate as an admission against the person with-drawing of the correctness of the rate of rent and other charges, the period of default, the amount due, or of any other facts stated in the tenants application for depositing the rent and other charges under the said section. (2) Any rent and other charges in deposit which is not withdrawn by the landlord or by the person or persons entitled to receive such rent shall except in cases where there is bonafide dispute of title be forfeited to Government by an order made by the Controller, if it is not withdrawn before the expiration of five years from the date of posting of the notice of deposit. (3) Before passing an order of forfeiture, the controller shall give notice to the landlord or the person or persons entitled to receive the rent and other charges in deposit by registered post at the last known address of such landlord or person or persons and shall also publish the notice in his office and in any local newspaper.
