Title: Exhibition of Table of Tolls, and Statement of Penalties

A table of the tolls authorised to be taken at any toll-gate or station shall be put up in a conspicuous place near such gate or station legibly written or printed in English words and figures, and also in those age of the district, to which shall be annexed, written or printed in like manner, a statement of the penalties for refusing to pay the tolls and for taking any lawful toll.

Section 18 Manufacture or possession of gunpowder Whoever manufactures gunpowder, or, without a license form the Magistrate, has in his possession in any house, shop, warehouse or other building, at any one time, a greater quantity of gunpowder than ten pounds, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding two hundred rupees, and also to forfeit such gunpowder so manufactured or possessed, together with the vessel or receptacle in which it may be contained. Section 19 Licenses by Magistrate for sale and deposit of gunpowder, etc. The Magistrate may grant to any person a license of the sale or keeping in deposit of any quantity of gunpowder not exceeding fifty pounds on such conditions, and for such term not exceeding one year, as shall be specified in the license; and any person who shall be guilty of a breach of any of such conditions shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred rupees, and to forfeit all gunpowder so kept in deposit contrary thereto, and the vessels containing it, and also to forfeit his.....

Title: Appointments Now Made in India to Continue to Be Made there

All Appointments to Offices, Commands, and Employments in India, and all Promotions, which by Law, or under any Regulations, Usage, or Custom, are now made by any Authority in India, shall continue to be made in India by the like Authority, and subject to the Qualifications, Conditions, and Restrictions now affecting such Appointments, respectively; but the Secretary of State in Council shall have the like Power to make Regulations for the Division and Distribution of Patronage and Power of Nomination among the several Authorities in India, and the like Power of restoring to their Stations, Offices, or Employments, Officers and Servants suspended or removed by any Authority in India as might have been exercised by the said Court of Directors, with the Approbatioon of the Commissioners for the Affairs of India, if this Act had not been passed.

BENGAL LAND REVENUE SALES ACT, 1859 BENGAL LAND REVENUE SALES ACT, 1859 11 of 1859 4th May, 1859 An Act to improve the law relating to sales of land for arrears of revenue in the Lower Provinces under the Bengal Presidency. Preamble. Whereas it is expedient to discontinue the practice of obtaining the previous sanction of the Board of Revenue to sales of estates for arrears of revenue, or other demands of Government, in the Province of Cuttack; and whereas it is just that a person having a lien upon an estate, and paying the money necessary to protect it from sale for arrears of revenue, should be reasonably secured and whereas it is expedient to afford shares in estates, who duly pay their shares of the sadar jama of their estates, easy means of protecting their shares from sale by reason of the default of their co-sharers ; and whereas it is expedient to afford landholders, particularly absentees, facilities in guarding against the accidental sale of their estates for arrears of revenue by reason of the neglect or fraud of their agents ; and it is therefore proper, for the above and other purposes, to improve the law relating to sales of land for arrears of revenue.....

Title: Disclosure of Identity of the Victim of Certain Offences Etc.

(1) Whoever prints or publishes the name or any matter which may make known the identity of any person against whom an offence under section 376, section 376A, section 376B, section 376C or section 376D is alleged or found to have been committed (hereafter in this section referred to as the victim) shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years and shall also be liable to fine. (2) Nothing in sub-section (1) extends to any printing or publication of the name or any matter which may make known the identity of the victim if such printing or publication is-- (a) by or under the order in writing of the officer-in-charge of the police station or the police officer making the investigation into such offence acting in good faith for the purposes of such investigation; or (b) by, or with the authorisation in writing of, the victim; or (c) where the victim is dead or minor or of unsound mind, by, or with the authorisation in writing of, the next of kin of the victim: Provided that no such authorisation shall be given by the next of kin to anybody other than the chairman or the secretary, by whatever name called, of any.....

Under s. 2(e) of the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act, 1969, `India' means for the purposes of this Act the territories to which this Act extends (i.e., whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir). According to s. 2(27) of Customs Act, 1962, `India' includes the territorial waters of India. SECTION 19: "JUDGE" The word "judge" denotes not only every person who is officially designated as a Judge, but also every person, who is empowered by law to give, in any legal proceeding, civil or criminal, a definitive judgement or a judgement which, if not appealed against, would be definitive, or a judgement which, if confirmed by some other authority, would be definitive, or who is one of a body of persons, which body of persons is empowered by law to give such a judgement. Illustrations (a) A Collector exercising jurisdiction in a suit under Act 10 of 1859, is a Judge.
