.....TRAFFIC CONTROL ACT, 1938 THE (Substituted by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws (Second Amendment) Order, 1969) (TAMIL NADU) TRAFFIC CONTROL ACT, 1938 An Act to provide for the control of traffic in public places in the (Substituted by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws Order, 1970) (State of Tamil Nadu) WHEREAS it is expedient to enable the (Substituted by ibid) (State Government) to make provision for the control of traffic in public places in the (State of Tamil Nadu) and for that purpose further to amend the Madras City Municipal Act, 1919 (The short title of this Act has now been altered as the Madras City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919), the (Tamil Nadu) District Municipalities Act, 1920, the (Tamil Nadu) Local Boards Act, 1920 (Now the Tamil Nadu District Boards Act, 1920 (Tamil Nadu Act IV of 1939), the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1914 (Now the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939 (Central Act IV of 1930)), in its application to the (State of Tamil Nadu), and the (Tamil Nadu) Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1931 (Repealed by the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1974 (Tamil Nadu Act 13 of 1974), Section 26) ; It is hereby enacted as follows.- 1. Manipur and Tripura are now States - See Act 81 of 1971. Vindhya Pradesh to which also this Act was extended by Act 30 of 1950, now forms part of the State of Madhya Pradesh - See Act 37 of 1956, Section 9 (1) (e). It has also been extended to States merged in the State of- Bombay-See Bombay Act 4 of 1950; Bombay has been split up now into two States-Maharashtra and Gujarat, Part also going to Mysore now Karnataka. Punjab-See Punjab Act 5 of 1950; Punjab stands divided into two States-Punjab and Haryana. (See Act 31 of 1966), Part of it has been added to Himachal Pradesh. Whereas it is expedient to consolidate and amend the law relating to the business of insurance; It is hereby enacted as foltows :- This Act has been applied to- (i) the partially excluded areas in the District of Darjesling, see Bengal Government Notification No. 1902-Com., dated 28-6-1939, Calcutta Gazette, dated 16-7-1939; (ii) the partially excluded areas in the Province of Orissa with effect from 14-10-1939, see Orissa Laws Validating Regulation, 1943 (1 of 1943). The Act has been extended to the new Provinces and Merged States by the S.3OF THE Merged States (Laws) Act, 1949 (1-1-1950) and to the States of Manipur, Tripura and Vindhya Pradesh by the Union Territories (Laws) Act, 1950 (30 of 1950), section 3 (16-4-1950). MANOEUVRES, FIELD FIRING AND ARTILLERY PRACTICE ACT, 1938 MANOEUVRES, FIELD FIRING AND ARTILLERY PRACTICE ACT, 1938 5 of 1938 [12th March, 1938] "To maintain the efficiency of the Army it is necessary-in India, as in every other country, to hold manoeuvres and to practice firing in open country from time to time. Manoeuvres take place over large areas and should preferably be held in different localities every year. Firing practice is of two kinds, either with artillery or with rifles or machine-guns. The latter may be sub-divided again into firing at targets on a rifle range and field firing, or practice in the open country under conditions similar to those of war. Manoeuvres, artillery practice and field firing, all involve, some invasion of private rights and a certain amount of damage to private property, because sufficient waste land for these purposes does not exist within reach of cantonments. It follows also that, in the interests of their safety, it may be necessary to exclude the owners of the land from it for short periods during such operations. .....any books, accounts, receipts, vouchers, survey reports or other documents, belonging to an insurer are likely to be tampered with, falsified or manufactured, he may authorise any subordinate officer of hi s, not lower in rank than3[ an officer authorised by the Authority] (he reafter ref erred to as the authorised officer) to -- (i) enter and search any building or place where he has reason to suspect that such books, accounts or other documents, or any books or papers relating to any claim, rebate or commission or any receipts, vouchers, reports or other documents are kept; (ii) break open the lock of any door, box, locker, safe, almirah or other receptacle for exercising the powers conferred by clause (i) where the keys thereof are not available; (iii) seize all or any such books, accounts or other documents, found as a result of such search; (iv) place marks of identification on such books, accounts or other documents or make or cause to be made extracts or copies therefrom.
