.....sub-section (1) are (a) any offence punishable under Chapter VIII of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860), other than an offence, punishable under section 153A or section 153B or section 154 thereof; (b) any offence which consists of, or includes, assault or using criminal force or committing mischief; (c) any offence of criminal intimidation; (d) any other offence which caused, or was intended or known to be likely to cause, a breach of the peace. (3) If the conviction is set aside on appeal or otherwise, the bond so executed shall become void. (4) An order under this section may also be made by an Appellate Court or by a Court when exercising its powers of revision. Title: Security for Keeping the Peace in Other Cases

( 1 ) When an Executive Magistrate receives information that any person is likely to commit a breach of the peace or dis t urb the public tranquillity or to do any wrongful act that may probably occasion a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquillity and is of opinion that there is sufficient ground for proceeding, he may in the manner hereinafter provided, require such person to show cause why he should not be ordered to execute a bond1[with or without sureties] for keeping the peace for such period, not exceeding one year, as the Magistrate thinks fit. ( 2 ) Proceeding under this section may be taken before any Executive Magistrate when either the place where the breach of the peace or disturbance is apprehended is within hi s local jurisdiction or there is within such jurisdiction a person who is likely to commit a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquillity or to do any wrongful act as aforesaid beyond such jurisdiction. ______________________ 1. .....the peace, the Court may, at the time of passing sentence on such person, order him to execute a bond, with or without sureties, for keeping the peace for such period, not exceeding three years, as it thinks fit. Section 21 - Closing of shops for the preservation of public peace etc 21. Clsoing of shops for the preservation of public peace1[etc., (1) The District Magistrate may, by notice in writing to the licensee require that any shops in which any intoxicant is sold shall be closed at such times and for such period as he may think necessary for the preservation of the public peace1[or the prevention of the spreading of any infectious diseases] (2) If any riot or any unlawful assembly is apprehended or occurs in the vicinity of any such shop, any Magistrate or any Police Officer not below the rank of a Sub-Inspector, who is present, may require such shop to be kept closed for such period as he may think necessary : Provided that where a riot or unlawful assembly so occurs, the licensee shall in the absence of such Magistrate or officer, close the shop without any order and keep it closed during the continuance of such riot or unlawful Assembly. _______________________________ 1. It shall be lawful for the Collector by notice in writing to the licensee to require that any shop in which 1 any excisable article is sold by retail shall be closed at such time as he may deem it necessary for the sake of public peace and order, that such shop should remain closed. 2 If a riot or unlawful assembly is imminent or occurring 3 in the vicinity of any such shop, it shall be lawful for any Magistrate or Police-officer who is present to require such shop to be kept closed for such period as he deems fit. ______________ 1. Title: Intentional Insult with Intent to Provoke Breach of the Peace

Whoever intentionally insults, and thereby gives provocation to any person, intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause him to break the public peace, or to commit any other offence, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
