SHRI JAGANNATH TEMPLE ACT, 1955 SHRI JAGANNATH TEMPLE ACT, 1955 An Act to Provide for Better Administration and Governance of Shri Jagannath Temple at Puri and its Endowments [Published vide Orissa Gazette Part X-No.44/4.11.1956] Whereas the ancient Temple of Lord Jagannath of Puri has ever since its inception been an institution of unique national importance in which millions of Hindu devotees from regions far and wide have reposed their faith and belief and have regarded it as the epitome of their tradition and culture; And whereas long period to and after the British conquest the superintendence, control and management of the affairs of the Temple have been the direct concern of successive Rulers, Governments and their officers and of the publisher exchequer; And whereas by Regulation IV of 1809 passed by the Governor-General in Council on 28th April, 1809 and thereafter by other laws and regulations and in pursuance of arrangement entered into with the Raja of Khurda, later designated the Raja of Puri, the said Raja came to be entrusted hereditary with the management of the affairs of the Temple and its properties as Superintendent subject to the control.....

BE it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Orissa in the Fifty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:" Short title and commencement. 1. ( 1 ) This Act may be called Shri Jagannath Temple (Amendment) Act, 2008. ( 2 ) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint. Amendment of section 21-B. Coal Mines (Nationalisation) Act, 1973 Complete Act

Some of the important amendments which the Ordinance proposed were as follows:- (a) the definition of "mine'' inthe Coking Coal Actandthe Coal Mines Actincluded all coal and coke belonging to the owner of the mine whether in stock or in transit and all coal under production in a mine on a day immediately prior to the date on which the coal mines were nationalised. Accordingly, the amounts specified in the Schedules to the two Acts included the value of the coke and coal in stock lying at the mines at the time of nationalisation. The Supreme Court, however, in a recent case, while agreeing with the contention that the coke and coal stocks lying at the mine vested in the Government as a result of nationalisation, took the view that the value of coke and coal stocks had to be taken into account for balancing the position of accounts as on the date immediately preceding the date of nationaliiation. This would have involved double payment of the amount in as much as the value of the coke and coal stocks had already been included in the amounts mentioned in the Schedules to the Acts against each coal mine. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Orissa in the Fifty-third Year of the Republic of India as follows:- 1. Short title. This Act may be called the Orissa Service of Engineers (Validation of Appointment) Act, 2002. 2. Definitions. In this Act unless the context otherwise requires- (a) "Government" means Government of Orissa; (b) "Recruitment .Rules" means the Orissa Service of Engineers Rules, 1941; (c) "Service" means the Orissa Service of Engineers; and (d) "Year" means the Calendar Year. 3.
