(1) Whoever removes, alters, defaces, renders invisible or otherwise tampers with the register number marked on a boiler in accordance with the provisions of this Act or any Act repealed hereby, shall be punishable with fine which may extend to 1[one lakh rupees]. (2) Whoever fraudulently marks upon a boiler a register number which has not been allotted to it under this Act or any Act repealed hereby, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to two years, or with 2[fine which may extend to one lakh rupees or with both]. _______________________ 1. .....of explosion and the achievement of uniformity of practice in regard to the operation, inspection and maintenance of boilers. At the time of enactment, the Act was meant for the regulation of small capacity and low pressure Boilers, as then the boiler industry had not then developed sufficiently. Experience of the working of the Act has revealed certain practical difficulties. Apart from this, the progressively increasing industrialisation of the country in recent years has rendered the use of boilers of higher pressures and greater capacities inevitable and the existing Act and regulations are not quite adequate to meet present day requirements, especially in the matter of inspection. In view of these considerations and of the importance of boiler operation and maintenance, it is proposed to amend the Act suitably. 2, The Central Boilers Board which has been constituted under section 27Aof the existing Act deals mainly with matters concerning the registration and inspection of boilers. Whereas it is expedient to consolidate and amend the law relating to the business of insurance; It is hereby enacted as foltows :- This Act has been applied to- (i) the partially excluded areas in the District of Darjesling, see Bengal Government Notification No. 1902-Com., dated 28-6-1939, Calcutta Gazette, dated 16-7-1939; (ii) the partially excluded areas in the Province of Orissa with effect from 14-10-1939, see Orissa Laws Validating Regulation, 1943 (1 of 1943). The Act has been extended to the new Provinces and Merged States by the S.3OF THE Merged States (Laws) Act, 1949 (1-1-1950) and to the States of Manipur, Tripura and Vindhya Pradesh by the Union Territories (Laws) Act, 1950 (30 of 1950), section 3 (16-4-1950). Manipur and Tripura are Union territories now and Vindhya Pradesh has been merged with the State of Madhya Pradesh -- See Act 37 of 1956, section 9(1)(e). It has been extended to the Union territories of- (1) Goa, Daman and Diu by Regn. 12 of 1962 (15-12-1963); (2) Dadra and Nagar Haveli, by Regn. 6 of 1963 (1-7-1965); (3) Pondicherry, by Regn. 7 of 1963 (1-10-1963); and (4) Laccadiv, Minicoy and Amindivi Islands, by Regn......
