THE NATIONAL WATERWAY (ALLAHABAD-HALDIA STRETCH OF THE GANGA-BHAGIRATHI-HOOGHLY RIVER) ACT, 1982 [Act, No. 49 of 1982] [18th October, 1982] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the declaration of the Allahabad-Haldia Stretch of the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river to be a national waterway and also to provide for the regulation and development of that river for purposes of shipping and navigation on the said waterway and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-third year of the Republic of India as follows :

Hooghly River Bridge Act, 1969 Complete Act

.....in the Official Ga- zette; (e) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act; (f) "regulations" means regulations made under this Act. Section 3 Provisions of the Act to be carried out by Commissioners (1)The duty of carrying out the provisions of this Act shall, subject to such conditions and limitations as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette think fit to impose, be vested in a body of Commissioners to be called the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners. (2) The Commissioners shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal with power to acquire, hold and dispose of property, and to enter into any contract and shall by the said name sue and be sued. (3) The body of Commissioners shall consist of a Chairman and such number of other members as the State Government may, by notification, appoint. (4) The Chairman or any other member appointed under sub-section (3) shall be entitled to receive such fees for the performance of his duties under this Act as the State Government may prescribe. II, Section 2, Page 41 (No. 37)] 1S.O. 53(E).-In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section 31 of the Hooghly Docking and Engineering Company Limited (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1984 (55 of 1984), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely,- RULE 01: SHORT TITLE AND COMMENCEMENT (1) These rules may be called the Hooghly Docking and Engineering Company Limited (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Administration of Funds Rules, 1985. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. RULE 02: DEFINITIONS In these rules unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) 'Act' means the Hooghly Docking and Engineering Company Limited (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1984 (55 of 1984); (b) 'Section' means a section of the Act; (c) 'Provident Fund' means the Provident Fund established by Messrs. Hooghly Docking and Engineering Company Limited for the benefit of persons employed in any of the under-takings owned by them. THE SCHEDULE [See section 2] LIMITS OF THE NATIONAL WATERWAY (ALLAHABAD-HALDIA STRETCH OF THE GANGA-BHAGIRATHI-HOOGHLY RIVER) From road bridge at Allahabad across the river Ganga, about 2 kms up-stream of the confluence of the rivers Ganga and Yamuna at Triveni to the Inland Waterway limit on the tidal waters of the river Hooghly from a line drawn between No. 1 Refuge house at the entrance to Baratola river commonly called channel creeek to a position 2.5 kms. due south of Saugor lighthouse, and then connected to the right or south bank at the entrance to the Hijili or Russulpore river, through river Ganga, lock canal and feeder canal at Farakka, river Bhagirathi and river Hooghly.
