This Act may be cited for all purposes as the [Tamil Nadu] General Clauses Act, 1867. 1 This expression was substituted for the expression " Act of the Governor of Fort St. George in Council" by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws Order, 1970, which was deemed to have come into force on the 14th January 1969. * The words "Provincial Government" were substituted fo* the words " Governor in Councilby the Adaptation Order of 1937 and the word " State " was substituted for " Provincial" by the ' Adaptation Order of 1950. * These words were substituted for the words "fort St. Qtorgt Gazette " by the Adaptation Order of 1937. * These words were substituted for the word " Madras " by th Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws Order, 1969, as amended, by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws (Second Amendment) Order, 19Mb vhjob mom iafo foro* oa \ho Ufh January 1909. * Tamil Nadu State Acts

This Act shall in the first instance extend only to the {Now that area form part of the U.P.} territories under the government of the Lieutenant-Governor of the North-Western Provinces of the Presidency of Fort William in Bengal. Power to State Government to extend this Act.- But it shall be lawful for the State Government, by notification in the Official Gazette, to {It has been extended to Oudh.See Notification No.591, dated 25th July, 1883, in North-Western Provinces and Oudh Gazette, 1883, Pt.I, p.433. Title: Power to Extend Act 5 of 1857

.....Part A States and Part C States] other than Calcutta and its environs : Provided that, in every place to which the said Act shall be so extended, section 3 of the same Act shall be read as if for the words "Town of Calcutta", the name of the place to which the said Act shall be so extended were substituted; section 7 of the same Act shall be read as if for the words and figures 'Act 14 of 1856', the following words were substituted; (that is to say) 'any law for the time being in force to provide for the conservancy and improvement of such place'. Title: Registration of Newspapers

.....or under this Act, and may, by general or special order, provide for the distribution or allocation of functions to be performed by them under this Act. Section 19B - Register of newspapers (1) the Press Registrar shall maintain in the prescribed manner a Register of newspapers. (2) The Register shall, as far as may be practicable, contain the following particulars about every newspaper published in India, namely :--- (a) the title of the newspaper ; (b) the language in which the newspaper is published ; (c) periodicity of the publication of the newspaper ; (d) the name of the editor , printer and publisher of the newspaper; (e) the place of printing and publication ; (f) the average number of pages per week ; (g) the number of days of publication in the year ; (h) the average number of copies printed, the average number copies sold to the public and the average number of copies distributed free to the public, the average being calculated with reference to such period as may be prescribed ; (i) retail selling price per copy ; (j) the names and addresses of the owners of the newspaper and such other particulars relating to ownership as may be prescribed......

Title: Appointment of Press Registrar and Other Officers

The Central Government may appoint a Registrar of newspapers for India and such other officers under the general superintendent and control of the Press Registrar as may be necessary for the purpose of performing the functions assigned to them by or under this Act, and may, by general or special order, provide for the distribution or allocation of functions to be performed by them under this Act.

ACTING JUDGES ACT, 1867 ACTING JUDGES ACT, 1867 (16 of 1867) 1st March, 1867 An Act to authorize the making of acting appointment to certain Judicial Offices. Preamble. Whereas, the Governor-General of India in Council or the Local Government, as the case may be, is empowered by diverse enactments to appoint the Judges of certain Courts b[* * *]; And whereas it has been doubted whether he or it is empowered to appoint persons to act temporarily as such Judges, and it is expedient to remove such doubts; It is hereby enacted as follows :-This Act has been declared, by notification under S. 3(a) of the Scheduled Districts Act, 1874(XIV of 1874), to be in force in the following Scheduled Districts, namely:- The Districts of Hazaribagh, Lohardaga (now the Ranchi District, see Calcutta Gazette, 1899, Pt. I, p. 44), and Manbhum, and Pargana Dhalbhum and the Kolhan in the Districts of Singbhum - See Gazette of India, 1881, Pt. I, p. 504. This Act has been extended to the new Provinces and Merged States by the Merged States (Laws) Act (59 of 1949), S. 3 (1-1-1950) and to the States of Manipur, Tripura and Vindhya Pradesh by the Union Territories (Laws) Act (30 of 1950), S. 3.....
