.....1908 2. Insertion of new section 16A - In the Registration Act, 1908 (16 of 1908) (hereafter in this Chapter referred to as the Registration Act), after section 16, the following section shall be inserted, namely: -- "16A. Keeping of books in computer floppies, diskettes, etc. -- (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in section 16, the books provided under sub-section (1) of that section may also be kept in computer floppies or diskettes or in any other electronic form in the manner and subject to the safeguards as may be prescribed by the Inspector-General with the sanction of the State Government. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act or in any other law for the time being in force, a copy or extracts from the books kept under sub-section (1) given by the registering officer under his hand and seal shall be deemed to be a copy given under section 57 for the purposes of sob-section (5) of that section." 3. Amendment of section 17 - In section 17 of the Registration Act, -- (a) after sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely:-- "(1A) The documents containing contracts to transfer for consideration, any immovable.....

Substituted for the words "Every Officer" by the Repealing and Amending Act (19 of 1988), Section 3, Under Schedule (31-3-1988). Section 76 - Voting by members (1) Subject to the provisions of sub-sections (2) and (3), every decision of a Coast Guard Court shall be passed by an absolute majority of votes; and where there is an equality of votes on either the finding or the sentence, the decision shall be in favour of the accused. (2) No sentence of death shall be passed by a Coast Guard Court without the concurrence of at least two-third of the members of the Court. (3) In matters other than a challenge or the finding or sentence, the presiding officer shall have a casting vote. Section 77 - General rule as to evidence The Indian Evidence Act, 1872, shall subject to the provisions of this Act, apply to all proceedings before a Coast Guard Court. Short title This Act may be called the Coast Guard (Amendment) Act, 2002. 2. Amendment of section 2 In section 2 of the Coast Guard Act, 1978 (30 of 1978) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in clause (w), for the words "or a Sahayak Engineer", the words", a Sahayak Engineer or a Pradhan Yantrik" shall be substituted. 3. Amendment of section 25 In section 25 of the principal Act, for sub-section (2), the following shall be substituted, namely:-- "(2) Every person who deserts or attempts to desert the Coast Guard shall, on conviction by a Coast Guard Court, be liable to suffer imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years or such less punishment as is in this Act mentioned and in every such case he shall forfeit,-- (a) all pay, salvage, prize.....
