INCOME TAX ACT, 1961 INCOME TAX ACT, 1961 43 of 1961 [AS AMENDED BY FINANCE ACT, 2003] An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to income-tax and super-tax BE it enacted by Parliament in the Twelfth Year of the Republic of India as follows : CHAPTER 1 PRELIMINARY Section 1 Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Income-tax Act, 1961. (2) It extends to the whole of India. (3) Save as otherwise provided in this Act, it shall come into force on the 1st day of April, 1962. For section 90 of the Income-tax Act, the following section shall be substituted, namely :- "90. Agreement with foreign countries. - The Central Government may enter into an agreement with the Government of any country outside India - (a) for the granting of relief in respect of income on which have been paid both income-tax under this Act and income-tax in that country, or (b) for the avoidance of double taxation of income under this Act and under the corresponding law in force in that country, or (c) for exchange of information for the prevention of evasion or avoidance of income-tax chargeable under this Act or under the corresponding law in force in that country, or investigation of cases of such evasion or avoidance, or (d) for recovery of income-tax under this Act and under the corresponding law in force in that country, and may, by notification in the Official Gazette, make such provisions as may be necessary for implementing the agreement.".

Passports Act, 1967 Section 12

Title: Offences and Penalties

.....under3 [sub-section (1) or subsection (1A)] shall, if the act abetted is committed in consequence of the abetment, be punishable with the punishment provided in that sub-section for that offence. (3) Whoever contravenes any condition of a passport or travel document or any provision of this Act or any rule made thereunder for which no punishment is provided elsewhere in this Act shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees or with both.
