.....book which shall have been delivered {Subs.by Act 10 of 1890, s.6, for "pursuant to section 9"} [pursuant to clause (a) of the first paragraph of section 9] of this Act.Such memorandum shall (so far as may be practicable) contain the following particulars (that is to say) :--- (1) the title of the book and the contents of the title-page, with a translation into English of such title and contents, when the same are not in the English language; (2) the language in which the book is written ; (3) the name of the author, translator or editor of the book or any part thereof ; (4) the subject ; (5) the place of printing and the place of publication ; (6) the name or firm of the printer and the name or firm of the publisher ; (7) the date of issue from the press or of the publication ; (8) the number of sheets leaves or pages ; (9) the size ; (10) the first, second or other number of the edition ; (11) the number of copies of which the edition consists ; (12) whether the book is printed { Subs.by Act 55 of 1955, s.15, for "or lithographed" (w.e.f.1st July 1956)} [cyclostyled or lithographed]; (13) the price at which the book is sold to the public ; and .....

Title: Delivery of Books of Public Libraries

.....in Section 9 of the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867 (XXV of 1867) , the publisher of every book published is the territories to which this Act extends after the commencement of this act, shall, notwithstanding any agreement to the contrary, deliver at his own expense a copy of the book to the National Library at Calcutta and one such copy to each of the other three public libraries within thirty days from the date of its publication. (2) The copy delivered to the National Library shall be a copy of the whole book with all maps and illustrations belonging thereto finished and coloured in the same manner as the best copies of the same, and shall be bound, sewed or stitched together and on the best paper on which any copy of the book is printed. (3) The copy delivered to any other public library shall be on the paper on which the largest number of copies of the books is printed for sale, and shall be in the like condition as the book prepared for sale. (4) Nothing contained in sub-section (1) shall apply to any second or subsequent edition of a book in which edition no additions or alterations either in the letter -press or in the maps, book prints or other.....

Title: Copies of Books Printed After Commencement of Act to Be Delivered Gratis to Government

.....all maps, prints and engravings finished and coloured as aforesaid, which may be necessary to enable him to comply with the requirements aforesaid. Nothing in the former part of this section shall apply to --- (i) any second or subsequent edition of a book in which edition no additions or alterations either in the latter-press or in the maps, prints or other engravings belonging to the book have been made, and a copy of the first or some preceding edition of which book has been delivered under this Act, or (ii) any { Subs.by Act 14 of 1922, s.3 and Sch I, for "periodical work"} [newspaper] published in conformity with the rules laid down in section 5 of this Act.

THE PRESS AND REGISTRATION OF BOOKS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1968 [Act No.30 of 1968] [8th August, 1968] An Act further to amend the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Nineteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows : - 1 .Short title.- This Act may be called the Press and Registration of Books (Amendment) Act, 1968. 2 .Amendment of section 5A, 25 of 1967.- In section 5A of the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867, for the words, brackets and figures "after the expiry of a period of two months from the date of commencement of the Press and Registration of Books (Amendment) Act, 1965 unless before the expiry of that period", at both the places where they occur, the words, figures and letters "after the 31st day of December, 1968, unless before the expiry of that date" shall be, and shall be deemed always to have been, substituted.

Amendment of section 5.- In section 5 of the principal Act,--- (a) for the words "and the value of the book", the words "and, if the contravention is in respect of a book, shall also be punishable with fine which shall be equivalent to the value of the book" shall be substituted; (b) after the words "to which the book", the words "or newspaper, as the case may be" shall be inserted. 7. Substitution of new section for section 7.-- For section 7 of the principal Act, the following section shall be substituted, namely:-- "7. Application of Act to books and newspapers published by Government.-- This Act shall also apply to books and newspapers published by or under the authority of the Government but shall not apply to books meant for official use only.".
