.....to amend th law relating to telegraphs in India; It is hereby enacted as follows :- SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, LOCAL EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT (1) This Act may be called the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. 1[(2) It extends to the whole of India2[* * *].] (3) It shall come into force on the first day of October, 1885. Sec. 2 and Sch.] SECTION 03: DEFINITIONS -In this Act, unless there is something repugnant in the subject or context,- 3[(1) "telegraph" means any appliance, instrument, material or apparatus used or capable of use for transmission or reception of signs, signals, writing, images, and sounds or intelligence of any nature by wire, visual or other electro-magnetic emissions.
