Title: Liability of Sheriff in Case of Escape of Person Taken in Execution

If any person taken in execution on any such process shall escape out of the legal custody of the Sheriff, the Sheriff shall not of be liable to an action of debt for such escape, but shall be liable only to an action upon the case for damages in consequence of such taken in escape sustained by the person or persons at whose suit the prisoner execution was taken.

.....ORDERS 44(1) The State Government may, in consultation with the Chairman and the Speaker, make rules or orders for carrying out the purposes of this Act.(1A) All rules or orders made under this Act shall be laid before both Houses of State Legislature as soon as may be after they are made.] (2) Any rule or order made under this section may be made so as to be retrospective to any date not earlier than the 1st day of November. 1956. .....a necessity arises appoint any indigenous Khasi male adult of good moral character, who is a resident and is not employed under any Organisation, to act as Acting Chief when a vacancy occurs.
