Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961 Section 4

Title: Persons to Be Deemed Tenants

State: Karnataka

A person lawfully cultivating any land belonging to another person shall be deemed to be a tenant if such land is not cultivated personally by the owner and if such person is not,-- (a) a member of the owner's family, or (b) a servant or a hired labourer on wages payable in cash or kind but not in crop share cultivating the land under the personal supervision of the owner or any member of the owner's family, or (c) a mortgagee in possession: Provided that if upon an application made by the owner within one year from the appointed day 1 [x x x],-- (i) the 2 [Tribunal] declares that such person is not a tenant and its decision is not reversed on appeal, or (ii) the 2 [Tribunal] refuses to make such declaration but its decision is reversed on appeal, such person shall not be deemed to be a tenant. _______________________________ 1. BOMBAY TENANCY AND AGRICULTURAL LANDS ACT, 1948 BOMBAY TENANCY AND AGRICULTURAL LANDS ACT, 1948 67 of 1948 An Act to amend the law relating to tenancies of agricultural lands and to make certain other provisions in regard to those lands. WHEREAS, it is necessary to amend the law which governs the relations of landlords and tenants of agricultural lands; AND WHEREAS, on account of the neglect of a landholder or disputes betsveen a landholder and his tenants, the cultivation of his estate has seriously suffered, or for the purpose of improving the economic and social conditions of peasants or ensuring the full and efficient use of land for agriculture, it is expedient to assume management of estates held by landholders and to regulate and impose restrictions on the transfer of agricultural lands, dwelling houses, sites and lands appurtenant thereto belonging to or occupied by agriculturists, agricultural labourers and artisans in the Province of Bombay and to make provisions for certain other purpose hereinafter appearing; It is enacted as follows:- CHAPTER 1 Preliminary Section 1 Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the BOMBAY.....

THE MAHE LAND REFORMS ACT, 1968 (Act No.1 of 1968) 22nd March, 1968 AN ACT To enact a comprehensive legislation relating to land reforms in Mahe region of the Union Territory of Pondicherry. WHEREAS it is expedient to enact a comprehensive legislation relating to land reforms in the Mahe region of the Union territory of Pondicherry; BE it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Pondicherry in the Nineteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows:- CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY Short title, extent and commencement. 1. (1) This Act may be called the Mahe Land Reforms Act, 1968. (2) It extends to the whole of Mahe region of the Union territory of Pondicherry.
