It is a seasonal river having a large flow of water during the rains which, apart from being generally wasted, at times causes great damage to life and property. It is now proposed to harness the water of this river and some of its tributaries and utilise it in multiple development of the Damodar Valley and the adjoining area. This Bill seeks to set up a Corporation, called the Damodar Valley Corporation on the lines of the Tennessee Valley Authority in the U.S.A. Section 11 - Limits of Damodar Valley and area of operations (1) The Central Government shall, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify the limits of the Damodar Valley. (2) The Corporation shall carry out all or any of its functions and exercise all or any of its powers within the Damodar Valley.
