The Orissa Opium Smoking Act, 1947 Complete Act

.....to prevent the assembling of persons for the purpose of such practice and to secure the ultimate prohibition of opium smoking; It is hereby enacted as follows: Section 1 - Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Orissa Opium Smoking Act, 1947. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Orissa. (3) It shall come into force in the Nawapara sub-division of the district of Sambalpur at once. In other areas of the State the whole Act with the exception of Section 8 shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint in this behalf. At the expiration of one year after the said date- (a) Section 8 shall come into force; (b) Section 10 shall have effect as if the figure '8' were inserted after the figure '7'; (c) Section 12 shall have effect as if the figure '8' were inserted after the figure '7'; and (d) Sub-sections (1) and (2) of Section 13 shall have effect as if the words "the smoking of opium is carried on in any place or that" were inserted after the words "has reason to believe that". .....The Trust may enter into and perform all such contracts as it may consider necessary or expedient for carrying out any of the purposes of this Act. PRODUCE MARKETS ACT, 1956 PRODUCE MARKETS ACT, 1956 An act to provide, for the better regulation of buying and selling of agricultural produce and the establishment of markets for agricultural produce in the State of Orissa Whereas it is expedient to provide for the better regulation of buying and selling of Agricultural produce in the State Of Orissa and establishment of Markets for agricultural produce. It is hereby enacted by the Legislature of the State of Orissa in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows: Statement of Objects and Reasons- Agricultural producer is at present a victim of the unfair practice and undue exactions of a host of middlemen on whom he has to depend for marketing his surplus produce. It has been estimate that the Agricultural Producer is able to get only 5 to 19 annas in the rupee paid for his produce by the ultimate consumer. Unless the Agricultural Producer is assured of his legitimate share of the price paid by the consumer of his produce it will not be possible to bring about any improvement in the standard of living of the cultivators and sustain the progress achieved in expanding agricultural production. The Orissa (Prevention Of) Gambling Act, 1955 Complete Act

.....follows: Statement of Objects and Reasons.- At present, three Gambling Acts are in form in different parts of Orissa. They are- (1) Public Gambling Act, 1867 (Act III of 1867); (2) Bengal Gambling Act, 1867 (Act II of 1867); and (3) Madras Gambling Act, 1930 (Act III of 1930). Before the merger some of the ex-State areas had adopted either Bengal Gambling Act or the Central Act, but after the merger the Bengal Gambling Act was extended to all ex-State areas. In the old district of Sambalpur the Central Act is in force while in ex-State areas included in these districts the Bengal Gambling Act is in operation. This has created a situation under which the Police Officers in the same district have to apply two different Acts for prosecution of the offenders. It has, therefore, become imperative to replace all the Acts by one new Act. Hence this Bill.
