Any person who wilfully obstructs or interferes with any member of the Force who is engaged in fire-fighting operations shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees or with both.

Section 21 - Closing of shops for the preservation of public peace etc 21. Clsoing of shops for the preservation of public peace1[etc., (1) The District Magistrate may, by notice in writing to the licensee require that any shops in which any intoxicant is sold shall be closed at such times and for such period as he may think necessary for the preservation of the public peace1[or the prevention of the spreading of any infectious diseases] (2) If any riot or any unlawful assembly is apprehended or occurs in the vicinity of any such shop, any Magistrate or any Police Officer not below the rank of a Sub-Inspector, who is present, may require such shop to be kept closed for such period as he may think necessary : Provided that where a riot or unlawful assembly so occurs, the licensee shall in the absence of such Magistrate or officer, close the shop without any order and keep it closed during the continuance of such riot or unlawful Assembly. _______________________________ 1. Title: Power of Board to Turn or Close Public Street Vested in It

(1) The Board may turn, divert, discontinue the public use of, or permanently close, any public street vested in it or any part thereof. (2) Whenever the Board discontinues the public use of, or permanently closes, any public street vested in it or any part thereof, it shall, as far as practicable, provide some other reasonable means of access to be substituted in lieu of the use, by those entitled, of the street or part thereof and pay reasonable compensation to every person who is entitled, otherwise than as a mere member of the public to use such street or part as a means of access and has suffered damage from such discontinuance or closing. (3) In determining the compensation payable to any person under sub-section (2), the Board shall make allowance for any benefit accruing to him from the construction, provision or improvement of any other public street at or about the same time that the public street or part thereof, on account of which the compensation is paid is discontinued or closed. (4) When any public street vested in the Board is permanently closed under sub-section (1), the Board may sell or lease so much of the same as is no longer required.

Title: Procedure to Be Followed when Highway Authority Desires Permanently to Close Any Highway

(4) The State Government may either approve the proposal with or without modification, or reject it. (5) When the State Government has approved the proposal it shall publish its orders in the official Gazette. (6) When the orders of the State Government have been published in the official Gazette, the Highway Authority shall arrange for further publicity to be given to the orders in at least two newspapers having circulation in the place in which such highway is situate and the highway or part thereof shall then be closed. (7) Whenever any highway or any part thereof has been so closed, reasonable compensation shall be paid to every person who was entitled otherwise than as a mere member of the public, to use such highway or part thereof as a means of access to or from his property and has suffered damage by such closure.

Title: Closing of Shops

(1) It shall be lawful for the Deputy Commissioner, by notice in writing to the licensee, to require that any place in which any intoxicant or hemp is sold by retail shall be closed at such time or for such period as he may deem necessary, if, in the opinion of the Deputy Commissioner, such closing is necessary in the interest of public peace. (2) If a riot or unlawful assembly is imminent or occurring, it shall be lawful for any Magistrate or Police Officer, who is present, to direct that such place shall be closed and kept closed for such period as he thinks fit. (3) Any order given under this section shall be final.

Title: Power to Dispose of Permanently Closed Streets

(1) When any public street is permanently closed under section 267, the corporation may dispose of the site or so much thereof as is no longer required making due compensation to any person injured by such closing. (2) In determining such compensation, allowance shall be made for any benefit accruing to the same premises or any adjacent premises belonging to the same owner from the construction or improvement of any other public street, at or about the same time that the public street, on account of which the compensation is paid, is closed.

Title: Power of Commissioner to Close or Limit the Use of Private Drains in Certain Cases

Where a drain connecting any premises with a corporation sewer is sufficient for the effectual drainage of such premises and is otherwise un-objectionable but is not, in the opinion of the Commissioner adopted to the general system of sewerage in the city he may, by written notice addressed to the owner of the premises, direct,- (a) that such drain be closed, discontinued or destroyed and that any work necessary for that purpose be done; or (b) that such drain shall, from such date as may be specified in the notice in this behalf be used for filth and polluted water only or for rain water and unpolluted sub-soil water only: Provided that,- (i) no drain may be closed, discontinued or destroyed by the Commissioner under clause (a) except on condition of his providing another drain equally effectual for the drainage of the premises and communicating with any corporation sewer which he thinks fit; and (ii) the expenses of the construction of any drain so provided by the Commissioner and of any work done under clause (a) shall be borne by the corporation.

(1) The Zilla Panchayat may, by notification, turn, divert, discontinue or permanently close any road which is under the control and administration of , or is vested in, the Zilla Panchayat. (2) Before issuing a notification under sub-section (1), the Zilla Panchayat shall publish in such manner as may be prescribed a notice of its proposal inviting objections and shall take into consideration any objections received.
