THE MADURAI CITY MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ACT, 1971 (TAMIL NADU ACT XV of 1971) THE MADURAI CITY MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ACT, 1971 (TAMIL NADU ACT XV of 1971) An Act to provide for the establishment of Municipal Corporation for the City of Madurai in the State of Tamil Nadu. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Tamil Nadu in the Twenty Second Year of the Republic of India as follows: CHAPTER " I PRELIMINARY 1. SHORT, TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT : (1) This Act may be called The Madurai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1971. NOTES The said Act and the Madras District Municipalities Act, 1920 have very many identical provisions. See 95 L.W. 324. (2) It extends to the City of Madurai (3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of May, 1971. 2. .....The publication of a notice under this section shall be conclusive evidence that the tax has been imposed in accordance with the provisions of this Act and the rules or bye-laws made thereunder. Section 108 - Description and class of property tax (1) If the corporation by a resolution determines that a property tax shall be levied, such tax shall be levied on all buildings and lands within the city save those exempted by or under this Act or any other law. (2) The property tax shall be levied, at such percentage, not being less than twenty percent and not more than twenty-five percent of the rateable value of buildings and lands as may be fixed by the corporation: Provided that the percentage so fixed may be different in different areas and for different classes of buildings.....

Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976 Chapter XVII

.....employed at any time in the factory, work-shop, work place or premises, obtain the approval of the inspector of factories appointed under the Factories Act, 1948 (Central Act 63 of 1948), having jurisdiction over the area in the city where such factory, work-shop, work-place or premises is located as regards the plan of the factory, work-shop, work-place or premises with reference to,- (i) the adequacy of the provision for ventilation and light; (ii) the sufficiency of the height and dimensions of the rooms and doors; (iii) the suitability of the exits, to be used in case of fire; (iv) such other matters as may be prescribed by rules made by the Government, and (b) shall consult and have due regard to the opinion of the health officer as regards the suitability of the site of the factory, workshop, workplace or premises for the purpose specified in the application. (5) All chimneys in connection with any such factory, workshop, or workplace or any such machinery or manufacturing plant shall be of such height and dimensions as the Commissioner may determine. Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976 Section 343

Title: Prohibition in Respect of Lodging Houses

(1) No person shall, without or otherwise than in conformity with the terms of a licence granted by the Commissioner in this behalf, keep any lodging house, eating house, tea-shop, coffee-house, cafe, restaurant, refreshment room, or any place, where the public are admitted for repose or for the consumption of any food or drink or any place where food is sold or prepared for sale. Explanation.--In this sub-section ''lodging house'' means a hotel, boarding house, choultry or rest-house other than a choultry or rest-house maintained by the Government or a local authority, or any place where casual visitors are received and provided with sleeping accommodation, with or without food, on payment but does not include a students' hostel under public or recognized control. (2) The Commissioner may at any time cancel or suspend any licence granted under sub-section (1) if he is of opinion that the premises covered thereby are not kept in conformity with the conditions of such licence or with the provisions of any bye-law made under section 423 relating to such premises whether or not the licensee is prosecuted under this Act.
