Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 Section 292

Title: Evidence of Officers of the Mint

Title: Power to Establish and Abolish Mints

The Government may, by notification.-- (a) establish a Mint at any place which may be managed by it or by any other person, which may be authorised for this purpose: Provided that the Mints established before the commencement of this Act shall be deemed to have been established by the Government under this section: Provided further that where the Government is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient in the public interest so to do, it may authorise the minting of coins by any organisation or Government of any foreign country, within or beyond the limits of India and acquire such coins either by way of import or otherwise for issue under its authority; (b) abolish any Mint.

Title: Power to Establish and Abolish Mints

The Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, (a) establish a Mint at any place at which a Mint does not for the time being exist; and (b) abolish any Mint, whether now existing or hereafter established. Title: Person Employed in Mint Causing Coin to Be of Different Weight or Composition from That Fixed by Law

Whoever, being employed inany mint lawfully established in 1 [India], does any act, or omits what he is legallybound to do, with the intention of causing any coin issued from that mint to beof a different weight or composition from the weight or composition fixed bylaw, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term whichmay extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine. ______________________ 1. Whoever, without lawful authority, takes out of any mint, lawfully established in 1 [India], any coining tool or instrument, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine. ______________________ 1. Title: Power of Mint to Delegate Its Functions

The Mint may in writing authorise any other organisation of the Government to melt withdrawn coins or take any help of such organisation for the said purpose. Explanation.--for the purposes of this section "organisation" means any Government industrial unit or public sector undertaking possessing melting facilities.
