Karnataka Sales Tax Act, 1957 Section 27

Title: Certain Dealers to Issue 1[and Obtain] Bill or Cash Memorandum

.....day, a consolidated bill or cash memorandum and include them in his books of accounts and statements or returns in accordance with the provisions of this Act.] 1[(1A) Every dealer who purchases goods from another dealer shall obtain a bill or cash memorandum in respect of a transaction whose total value exceeds4[one hundred rupees] in each case.] (2) Any person who contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1)1[or sub-section (1A)] shall, on conviction, be punishable with a fine equal to double the amount of the bill or the cash memorandum in respect of which such contravention has occurred5[or4[one thousand rupees] whichever is more.] _______________________________ 1. Karnataka Tax on Entry of Goods Act, 1979 Section 17A

Title: Maintenance of Accounts by Dealers and Issue of Sale Bills or Cash Memorandum

Section 3 - Bills to state the date by which payments are to be made and consequences of non-payment (1) Every bill for dues payable to the1[Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation] by a debtor shall be in the prescribed form and shall specify conspicuously the date by which such dues are to be paid. (2) If the dues are not paid by such date, the debtor shall be liable to pay in addition thereto such penalty, as may be prescribed, and such dues and penalty shall be recoverable along with the costs incurred in making such recovery, in the manner hereinafter laid down in this Act. ________________________ 1. Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board Act, 1973 Section 66E

Title: Service of Bills for Charges or Notice of Demand by Ordinary Post

Notwithstanding anything contained in section 66D a bill for any charges or a notice of demand may be served by sending it by ordinary post with a prepaid letter under a certificate of posting addressed to the appropriate person specified in section 66D at his last known place of residence or business and in proving the service of every bill or notice so sent it shall be sufficient to prove that the letter was properly addressed and posted under a certificate of posting.

Title: Service of Notices and Bills

(1) Every notice or bill issued or prepared under this Act, may be served or presented,-- (a) by delivering or tendering it or sending it by registered post to the person to whom it is addressed, or to his agent, or (b) if such a person or his agent is not found, then by leaving it at his usual or last known place of abode or by delivering or tendering it to some adult male member of his family or by causing it to be fixed on some conspicuous part of the building or land, if any, to which it relates. (2) Where a notice under this Act is required to be served upon an owner or occupier of a building or land, it shall not be necessary to name the owner or occupier, and the service thereof may be effected either,-- (a) by delivering or tendering the notice or sending it by registered post to the owner or occupier or if there be more owners or occupiers than one, to any one of them, or (b) if no such owner or occupier is found, then by giving or tendering the notice to an adult male member or servant of his family or by causing the notice to be fixed on some conspicuous part of the building or land to which the same relates. Karnataka Value Added Tax Act, 2003 Section 76

Title: Penalties Relating to Tax Invoices, Bills of Sale, Credit Notes and Debit Notes

(a) fails to provide a tax invoice as required by sub-section (1) of section 29 or a credit or debit note as required by sub-section (1) or sub-section (2) of section 30, or (b) provides a tax invoice otherwise than in accordance with the provisions of section 29 or a credit or a debit note as provided in section 30, shall be liable to a penalty of two thousand rupees or an amount equivalent to the tax payable on the transaction, whichever is higher for such offence which is the first during a financial year and if the offence committed is not the first offence during a financial year, a penalty of five thousand rupees or an amount equivalent to the tax payable on the transaction, whichever is higher. (2) A registered dealer who fails to issue a bill of sale as required by sub-section (1) of section 29 shall be liable to a penalty of one thousand rupees for such offence which is the first during a financial year and if the offence committed is not the first offence during a financial year, a penalty of two thousand rupees. Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act, 1964 Section 102

Notwithstanding anything contained in sections 100 and 101 a bill for any charges or a notice of demand may be served by sending it by ordinary post with a prepaid letter under a certificate of posting addressed to the appropriate person specified in section 101 at his last known place of residence or business and in proving the service of every bill or notice so sent it shall be sufficient to prove that the letter was properly addressed and posted under a certificate of posting.

Every notice or bill which is required by this Act or by any rule or regulation made thereunder to bear the signature of the Managing Director or any other director or of any officer or servant of the Board shall be deemed to be properly signed if it bears the facsimile of the signature of the Managing Director or of such other director or of such officer or servant, as the case may be, stamped thereupon.
