.....Act'' means the 1 [Karnataka] Land Revenue Act, 1964 (1 [Karnataka]Act 12 of 1964); (b)''appointed date'' means the date appointed under sub-section (4) of section 1; (c)1 [Belgaum and Gulbarga Areas] means the areas referred to in clauses(b) and (c) of sub-section (1) of section 7 of the States Re-organisation Act,1956 (Central Act 37 of 1956); (d)''Deputy Commissioner'' includes any officer not below the rank of an AssistantCommissioner authorised by the State Government by notification published in theofficial gazette, to exercise the powers of a Deputy Commissioner under thisAct; (e)"inam'' includes an inam village and a minor inam; (f)''inamdar'' means a religious or charitable institution owning an inam; (g)''inam land'' means land held by or on behalf of a religious or charitableinstitution as an inam and includes land held as Mashruth-ul-Kidmat Madath-a-Mash and also lands endowed as wakf-e-tamal and Wakf-e-nama; (h)''inam village'' means a village or portion of a village or hamlet or khandrigaheld by or on behalf of a religious or charitable institutions as an inam: (i)''land records'' means records maintained under the provisions of or for.....

Title : Abolition and Vesting of Inams in the State and Its Consequences

.....beds, mines, quarries, rivers, streams, tanks and irrigation works; (ii)land in respect of which any person is entitled to be registered under section4, section 5, section 7 or section 8 or is entitled to continue as a tenantunder section 6 and also the extent of land in respect of which the said personis not entitled to be registered in view of the restrictions in section 10 orsection 25, as the case may be; and (iii)lands upon which buildings owned by any person other than the inamdar have beenerected. (2)Subject to the provisions of sub-section (3), every building situated within thelimits of the inam which was owned immediately before the appointed date by theinamdar shall, with effect from and on the appointed date, vest in the inamdar. (3)Notwithstanding anything contained in any law for the time being in force, aninamdar shall not be entitled to alienate the land or the building vesting inhim under sub-section (1) or sub-section (2) except by way of a simple mortgageto a society or a bank registered under the 1 [Karnataka] Co-operative SocietiesAct, 1959 (1 [Karnataka] Act 11 of 1959) or to the State Bank of India and itssubsidiaries or a bank specified in.....

THE 1 [KARNATAKA] SLUM AREAS (IMPROVEMENT AND CLEARANCE) ACT, 19732 [ACT, No. 33 of 1974] [1st October, 1974] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the improvement and clearance of slums in the State of 1 [Karnataka]. WHEREAS the number of slums in certain areas in the State of 1 [Karnataka] is increasing and is a source of danger to public health and sanitation of the said areas; And whereas under the existing law it has not been possible effectively to check the increase, to eliminate congestion and to provide for basic needs such as streets, water-supply and drainage and to clear the slums which are unfit for human habitation; And whereas to obviate this difficulty it is expedient to provide for the removal of un-hygienic and insanitary conditions prevailing in the slums, for better accommodation and improved living conditions for slum dwellers, for the promotion of public health generally and for the acquisition of land for the purpose of improving, developing or redeveloping slum areas, clearance of slums and rehabilitation of slum dwellers; And whereas the Constitution of India enjoins, as a Directive Principle of State Policy that the State should improve public.....

.....Act, 1956; WHEREAS on the basis of the ranking of civil servants in the several inter-state seniority lists prepared in pursuance of sub-section (5) of section 115 of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 (Central Act 37 of 1956), courts have directed the making of retrospective promotions to statutory and other offices; AND whereas as held by the Supreme Court in Ajit Singh Vs. State of Punjab reported in All India Reporter 1967, Supreme Court 856 and in Income-Tax Officer, Alleppy Vs. N.C. Ponnoose, reported in All India Reporter 1970 Supreme Court 385 appointments of civil servants to offices in which statutory functions are exercisable cannot be made with retrospective effect; AND whereas retrospective promotions involve payment of large sums of money to persons who have not worked in the promotional posts or offices concerned, to the detriment of the finances of the State, besides involving retrospective reversions rendering invalid the statutory functions discharged by the persons reverted; AND whereas retrospective promotions preclude the determination of the suitability of the civil servants to hold the promotional posts or offices and will enable them to.....

Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board Act, 1973 Chapter 1

Section 2 - Definitions In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "Board" means the 1 [Karnataka] Slum Clearance Board, established under section 33; (b) "building" includes a house, out-house, stable, latrine, shed, hut, wall and any other such structure, whether of masonry, bricks, wood, mud, metal or any other materials whatsoever, but does not include plant or machinery comprised in a building; (c) "court" means the District Court having jurisdiction; (d) "erection" in relation to a building includes extension, alteration or re-erection; (e) "Government" means the State Government; 2 (ee) "hut" means any building, which is constructed principally of wood, mud, leaves, grass or thatch and includes any temporary structure of whatever size or any small building of whatever material made;] (f) "land" includes building and benefits to arise out of land and things attached to the earth or permanently fastened to anything attached to the earth; 2 [(ff) "licensing authority" means the authority.....
