Section Text

(1) This Act may be called the Electricity Act, 2003.
(2) It extends to the whole of India 1***.
(3) It shall come into force on such date2 as the Central Government may, by notification, appoint:
Provided that different dates may be appointed for different provisions of this Act and any reference in any such provision to the commencement of this Act shall be construed as a reference to the coming into force of that provision.


1. The words except the State of Jammu and Kashmir omitted by Act 34 of 2019, s. 95 and the Fifth Schedule (w.e.f. 31-10- 2019).
2. 10th June, 2003 (ss. 1 to 120 and ss. 122 to 185), vide notification No. S.O. 669(E), dated 10th June, 2003, see Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, sec. 3(ii).
