(1) This Act may be called the Coconut Development Board Act, 1979.
(2) It extends to the whole of India.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
Section 2 - Declaration as to expediency of control by the UnionIt is hereby declared that it is expedient in the public interest that the Union should take under its control the coconut industry.
Section 3 - DefinitionsIn this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,--
(a) "Board" means the Coconut Development Board established under section 4;
(b) "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Board;
(c) "coconut" means the fruit of coconut palm and includes green coconut, ripe coconut and copra.
Explanation.-"Coconut Palm" means the coconut tree, Cocos Nucifera Linn;
(d) "coconut industry" does not include--
(i) Coir industry; or
(ii) an industry from which products (including by-products) out of coconut oil are manufactured;
(e) "member" means a member of the Board and includes the Chairman;
(f) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
