Definition :
Political party, in UK origins of organised political parties are relatively recent. They were first acknowledged by Burke in 1769; according to some commentators, the parties originated in Whig and Tory Groups in the late seventeenth century, Political Parties in Modern Britain, John D. Lees and Richard Kinber, p. 1.
Means the largest mass organisation of voters in modern government, Dictionary of Political Science, Joseph Dunner, 1965, p. 417.
Unlike in UK, the political parties in India are registered with Election Commission, Representa-tion of the People Act, 1951, s. 29A.
