Definition :
Marriage Officer, an officer who can celebrate marriage in foreign countries and British Possessions under the Foreign Marriages Act, 1892.
It means a person appointed under s. 3 to be a Marriage Officer. [Foreign Marriage Act, 1969 (33 of 1969), s. 2 (d)] For the purposes of this act, the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint one or more Marriage Officers for the whole or any part of the State [Special Marriage Act, 1954, s. 3(1)]
