1. We are informed that a meeting of the State Secretaries was held on 27-11-2000 in which status of zoos, as maintained in various States in the country, came up for consideration. The issue arising out of killing and skinning of a tigress in Hyderabad Zoo was also discussed. Learned Solicitor-General submits that in that meeting certain decisions were taken for improving management of zoos, but certain further steps are required to be incorporated and by the next date, he would be in a position to suggest what type of improvements in management of zoos can be effected to deal effectively with the existing unsatisfactory manner in which the zoos are being established and maintained in various States.
